Donnell James Herbert

Don was born on March 24, 1933 to Harry and Myra Herbert in Flandreau, South Dakota. He was the youngest of six children. They were a farming family. After high school Don joined the Navy. He later met and married Betty and had two children. He was employed by Southern California Gas Company from 1961 until retiring in 1992. His first marriage ended and he was remarried. He and Geri were married for 36 years until her passing in 2014. During his marriage to Geri they adopted their grandson. He and Geri moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota and Don served as the mayor of Hot Springs for two terms before moving to Arizona. They resided in Arizona until Geri’s passing. Don and his grandson then moved to California and remained there until he stepped into eternity on December 23, 2024.

Don is survived by his sons Steve and fiancé Elaine, Tim and wife Tammy and Michael; two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 11:00am Saturday February 22, 2025 at Ridgeview Community Church, 8420 Stine Road, Bakersfield, CA 93314. If unable to attend in person, the service will be live streamed through YouTube.
