Guy Freeman Porter

December 17, 1932 — April 27, 2024

Freeman Guy Porter, 91, passed away Saturday evening April 27, 2024. He is now with our Heavenly Father with all the angels in heaven. Guy is survived by his son Guy Brian Porter (Megan) grandson Carter.  Grandchildren Ciara and Paul Coleman, Natalie Stetson , from deceased daughter Julie. John Barnes, adopted son, and his children. His wife of 29 years, Georgina L. Porter, her sons Matt Libatique (Mary-Ellen) and David Libatique (Christina) grandchildren: Zeke, Audrey, Lauren and Ethan Libatique. He is also survived by his brother Gary L Porter. Nephew Greg Porter, nieces Denise Brooks and Suzette Baasch and their families.  


Guy was born in Rifle, Colorado his mother, Delena  Vela was from a ranching family in  Eckert, CO and his Father Lewis Guy Porter was from Fruita. They moved to southern California when Guy was young and settled in La Habra. 


Guy graduated from Fullerton High School and then onto University of Wyoming where he graduated with a degree in Political Science. He was active in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. 


After college he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and was stationed in El Toro, Santa Ana, CA. He was a second Lieutenant when he was honorably discharged for a disability incurred in the Corps. 


He then worked in the Automobile business for more than 50 years. He worked for General Motors Acceptance Corporation for many years and then for Southwest Leasing and finally with dealerships in their Finance & Sales department until he retired to Bakersfield, CA. 


He enjoyed his retirement with his beloved wife, their dogs, and their miniature horse Ramsey. During his retirement he also served on the Grand Jury for two unconsecutive years. His hobbies were deer hunting, collecting antiques, as well as keeping up with his college alumni. 


Guy will be missed for his forthrightness and dedication to his opinions. He was a man that stood staunch in his beliefs never wavering regardless of differing opinions.  His passing is a loss that is felt deeply by those of us who know of his love and dedication to us.  Although he lived a long and fulfilled life we are saddened by his loss and he will be terribly missed.
